Title
Food Bank Shopper
Position Reports to
Volunteer Coordinator
Job Purpose Summary
The San Francisco Food Bank is a non-profit organization that collects donations of food and non-food items and redistributes them to other non-profits at an extremely low cost. Each year, ATC spends about $12,000 at the Food Bank, and receives about $250,000 worth of goods (pretty cool, no?). Currently, ATC staff members go to the Food Bank twice a week: once weekly to collect and deliver supplies back to our office, and once to collect and have supplies delivered by the Food Bank. It can be a lot of fun to go to the Food Bank. Every week there are new items, and you never know what you’ll get. It’s like shopping at your favorite clothing store, waiting to see what exciting new items they have, except they are always on sale, and someone else is paying.
Key responsibilities and Accountabilities:
• We would need people to commit to going to the food bank either every week or every other week for a period of at least six months
• The total amount of time, from when you arrive at the food bank to when you leave ATC would be about 2 hours
• This position requires a car, driver’s license, and car insurance. You also need to be in decent shape in order to lift the boxes
• Often, the first impression that we make on our clients is formed by the quality and diversity of the items we have to offer. You would be helping us make sure that our clients get their basic needs met. In addition you would be required to get to know what items and in what amount help us achieve this objective
Training Provided
• An organizational and office introduction: 2 hours
• The Food Bank’s shopper training: 2 hours
• Shadowing staff shoppers about 3 times: 6 hours
• Additional training as needed
Position Details
The Food Bank is open from 8AM-3PM, Monday through Friday. These are the only hours when you could do the shopping. Mondays and Wednesdays are our current shopping days, these would be ideal, but other days may work.
